Mythical Beings Class

I am Professor Noah Washington. I will come to The Cybrarie from time to time to lecture on my particular area of expertise. In my class you will learn about mythical beings. Many cultures in this world have “folktales”, “legends” and stories they classify as “mythology”. These stories are all based on tales of the long ago, the ancient story tellings of creatures that once roamed freely alongside mankind in your Terrene world, but now have to make their homes in other realms, safe from being hunted down by humans such as yourselves.

My own race, the goblin, has received quite a nasty reputation from humans. It seems humans have a tendency to think other races substandard to them if the other race possesses talents and skills most humans have not mastered. Like magic. There are some humans with a gift for magic; however, most have neither the patience to learn the skill or the capacity for doing so. When another race has mastered this skill, humans for some reason tend to equate this with a lack of intelligence. Quite an illogical leap, if you ask me.

Goblins are not ugly derivatives from the Brownie race. While beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, we are neither ugly nor are we Brownies. I stand a full 3’ 6”, considerably taller than the largest of the Brownie race. My blue skin is much more attractive than the brown elf known as a Brownie. They are a little goodie two-shoe race who remain invisible to the humans who live in the homes they inhabit. They like to perform chores in exchange for gifts that are left (particularly fond of porridge) but leave and turn into their nastier alter ego, the boggart, if the gifts are referred to as a payment. Goblins are not as tempermental.

We are also known by humans as being mischievous, a longstanding myth I would like to bring to closure now. Being mischievous implies a wicked sense of humor. I ask you, do I remotely strike you as a being with any sense of humor, wicked or otherwise? The answer to that is irrevocably NO. I have no sense of humor, nor do others of my race. We are analytical, and intelligent with a particular gift in the areas of math and science.

Humans say we have large heads. Again, things are proportionate. Goblins are intelligent. Our brains are substantially larger than human brains because, unlike many humans, we exercise our brains. We are continually thinking and analyzing. My long fingers are most helpful, for instance, in performing simple magical feats. My large silver eyes are quite adept in all levels of light, from the darkest of caves, to the brightest light as found in the Realm of Restalla where at any given time there are three very bright suns shining at any given time.

Our curriculum for this class will be quite informal, so if there is a particular being you would like to study, leave me a note in this forum and we will attempt to address it in a future lesson. For the time being...class dismissed.

Thank you for your question. Yes, Miss CaityGee. We will be studying fairies and unicorns in this class. I am more than happy to discuss any of the mythical races here. The next lesson I had planned, however, will be with the continuation of the Goblin race, particularly the Great Goblin Rebellion of 613, but we certainly can move onto fairies and unicorns if you wish. Young Master Brady has also requested the study of dragons.
